Prof Doumouchtsis is a Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist and subspecialist Urogynaecologist in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s University of London, UK, a Visiting Professor at the University of Athens, Medical School and an Associate Clinical Professor at the American University of the Caribbean, School of Medicine.
Having completed his training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the UK, he undertook subspecialty training in Urogynaecology. Following the completion of his training, he was awarded an Ethicon Travel Award by the RCOG and worked as a visiting Scholar at the University of Michigan, where he participated in research projects with the Pelvic Floor Research Group.
Professor Doumouchtsis is a member of several national and international scientific societies and has participated in professional committees, working groups and professional organisations. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles and over 40 book chapters. He is the Editor of the Textbook Childbirth Trauma and a co-editor of the Oxford Textbook of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and of the Oxford Handbook of Emergencies in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Professor Doumouchtsis is the founder and Lead of CHORUS, An International Collaboration for Harmonising Outcomes, Research and Standards in Urogynaecology and Women’s Health (i-chorus.org). Professor Doumouchtsis’ research interests focus on identifying limitations in research, and solutions on how to improve research as well as clinical practice standards. Additional research interests include pelvic floor treatment outcomes, pelvic floor anatomy and imaging, image analysis and processing, epidemiological studies in childbirth trauma and pelvic floor disorders.
Professor Doumouchtsis has contributed as an invited speaker and chairman at national and international conferences. He is a Scientific Editor for BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
