Types of Pelvic Ultrasound Scans
- Transabdominal Pelvic Ultrasound (across the abdomen):
Performed over the tummy using an external probe and gel, which allows operator an overview of the pelvic organs, particularly the bladder and uterus, including for large fibroids. A full bladder is required. - Transvaginal Pelvic Ultrasound (internal vaginal scan):
Performed using a probe inside the vagina for a closer, high-resolution view of the uterus, ovaries, and endometrium. This is often a preferred scan by Gynaecologists for optimum assessment of gynaecological symptoms.
